Why Caro Uccellino?

Growing up a lot of my childhood was spent around my grandparents, they immigrated to the U.S. from Italy and eventually opened a shop in Los Angeles County creating custom cheerleading uniforms for all the high schools throughout the 80’s. For as long as I can remember I was always fascinated by the spools of threads along with the giant industrial machines and how they could possibly make clothes with them.

Caro Uccellino is “Dear little bird” in Italian

Meet Liz Nicole

The founder and designer of Caro Uccellino, she decided by age 10 that she would grow up to be a fashion designer.

(Probably watched a few to many project runways but hey, here we are)

How was sustainability decided?

I planned to go to Parsons The New School in New York my whole life and got the chance to visit when I was in high school. But I was sent in another direction and landed in Santa Barbara where I started working towards a bachelor’s in marine biology and a minor in environmental studies. I became fiercely eco-friendly and every year I took new steps to be a sustainable consumer.

This conflicted me... how could I follow my dream but still stand by my ethics of sustainable consumption?

This is something I work on daily and will work on forever, lowering the impact of fashion, finding, and creating new ways to become more sustainable, and always sharing the knowledge behind it. A sustainable clothing brand merges my two passions together and brings balance to my life.
